If there’s one city in the world that knows how to celebrate love, it’s Las Vegas. From neon lights and Elvis impersonators to hidden chapels and desert sunsets, Vegas offers couples the freedom to say “I do” in their own personal way. But here’s the truth: your elopement deserves more than quick snapshots or phone pictures. It deserves to feel like a story, one you’ll relive every time you look at your photos.
As a Las Vegas wedding and elopement photographer, I’ve put together this guide to help you plan a stress free, beautiful elopement in Vegas and to make sure your photos reflect the vibe of your day.
Why elope in Vegas?
- Its simple. As the wedding capital of the world, Nevada makes it quick and easy to get your marriage license.
- Its iconic. The strip, neon vintage lights, desert landscape. There's no backdrop like it.
- Its flexible. Whether you want Elvis officiating, a romantic chapel, or vows in the desert. Vegas has something for everyone.
Step 1: Get your marriage license
Before anything else, you’ll need a marriage license. Luckily, Las Vegas is famous for how quick and easy it is.
- Apply for your marriage license online at the official Clark County website which can be found here.
- Head to the Clark County Marriage License Bureau (open 8 a.m. till midnight, seven days a week).
- Bring a valid photo ID.
- Pay the fee (Currently $102).
- No waiting period, no blood test. You can marry the same day!
Step 2: Choose your elopement location
Now that the boring stuff is out of the way, this is where the fun begins. Vegas offers a mix of quirky, romantic, and iconic spots. Here are some favorites:
Little White Chapel: Iconic, fun, and full of history.
Sure Thing Chapel: Retro vibes with unique character.
The Neon Museum: A photographer’s dream with glowing vintage signs that scream Vegas.
Red Rock Canyon: For couples who want a natural, epic desert backdrop.
(Pro tip: Think about the mood you want. Do you want fun and iconic? Or vintage and humor? Your location sets the tone.)
Step 3: Book your photographer
If you're wondering if you should book a photographer, the answer is yes. I've had many couples doing vow renewals mention that they regret not booking a photographer the first time. Your elopement will fly by and having the right photographer ensures you can relive it for years to come. My approach is simple: I focus on cinematic storytelling, capturing both the big vows and the small, in between moments that make your love unique.
I use muted, timeless tones that feel vintage yet modern so your photos will look as beautiful 20 years from now as they do today.
Step 4: Add personal touches and book your other vendors
One of the best parts of eloping in Las Vegas is how flexible it is. You don’t need a huge wedding budget or a 12 month planning checklist. However, adding a few personal touches and key vendors can make your day feel completely yours.
Think about what will make your elopement unforgettable:
Florals: A bouquet or boutonnière adds instant romance (and looks amazing in photos). Whether you choose classic roses or something bold and colorful, flowers always elevate the day.
Hair & Makeup: Even with a quick ceremony, a professional HMUA makes you feel confident and photo ready.
Officiant: Vegas chapels often provide one but you can also hire someone who matches your vibe. From classic and heartfelt to fun and Elvis inspired.
Transportation: A vintage car, limo, or even a simple Uber can set the tone.
Celebration: Plan a little “after.” It could be dinner at your favorite restaurant, cake in your hotel suite, or late-night In-N-Out. Whatever feels like you.
These details don’t have to be over the top. The point is to bring in pieces that reflect your personalities and create moments worth remembering.. and photographing!
Step 5: Relax and enjoy your day!
The beauty of a Vegas elopement is that it doesn’t have to be stressful. With a license in hand, a location picked, and a photographer to guide you, all that’s left is to focus on each other.
And that’s where the magic happens! The laughter, the nerves, the kiss under the lights. That’s the story I’ll capture for you.
